ADNOC Commences Crude Oil Production At Belbazem Offshore Block To Meet Global Energy Demand
ADNOC has initiated crude oil production at the Belbazem offshore block, marking a significant step in its mission to meet the escalating global demand for energy sustainably. This development is a collaborative effort with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) through their joint venture, Al Yasat Petroleum. The project underscores ADNOC's innovative strategies, which include the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalisation to boost efficiency and safety, alongside efforts to minimize emissions and operational costs.
Abdulmunim Saif Al Kindy, ADNOC Upstream Executive Director, highlighted the commencement of production as a reflection of the successful strategic partnership with CNPC. It also emphasizes the strong energy ties between the UAE and China. "ADNOC continues to maximise value from Abu Dhabi’s resources, while reducing our carbon footprint to ensure a secure, reliable, and responsible supply of energy to customers locally and internationally," he stated.

The Belbazem offshore block is set to progressively increase its production capacity to 45,000 barrels per day (bpd) of light crude and 27 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of associated gas. This boost in production is aligned with ADNOC’s goal to achieve a production capacity of 5 million bpd by 2027 and supports the UAE's ambition for gas self-sufficiency.
Al Yasat Petroleum is at the forefront of implementing AI modelling and analysis tools across its offshore concession area. The Belbazem block employs WellInsight, an AI tool developed by AIQ, for reservoir data analysis and operational management, enhancing safety and performance. Furthermore, the block benefits from advanced technologies already in use at Al Yasat’s Bu Haseer offshore field to optimise production and reservoir management.
The strategic development of the Belbazem block leverages operational synergies by utilising facilities from the Satah Al Razboot (SARB) offshore field operated by ADNOC Offshore. This approach results in significant cost savings and a reduced environmental footprint. Located 120 kilometers northwest of Abu Dhabi city, the Belbazem Block encompasses three offshore fields: Belbazem, Umm Al Salsal, and Umm Al Dholou.
This initiative not only exemplifies ADNOC's commitment to sustainable energy production but also reinforces the UAE's position as a responsible provider of energy on the global stage. Through strategic partnerships and technological innovations, ADNOC is set to continue its trajectory towards meeting both local and international energy demands efficiently.
