ADNEC Group To Host Middle East's Inaugural Long-Distance Triathlon In 2025
Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ADNEC Group has announced the launch of the Challenge Sir Bani Yas Triathlon. This event, the first of its kind in the MENA region, will take place from 3-7 April 2025. The triathlon is set to become an annual event through ADNEC Group's collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Challenge Family.
The inaugural Challenge Sir Bani Yas expects over 2,800 participants and 1,500 visitors from both local and international locations. The long-distance triathlon includes a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km bike ride, and a 42.2 km run. These challenges will unfold over a 17-hour period across different stages. Additionally, there is a middle-distance triathlon featuring a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km bike ride, and a 21.1 km run.

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group, stated: "The introduction of this race aligns with ADNEC Group's strategy to cultivate and draw major international events across several crucial sectors. Al Dhaheri highlighted that these races are designed to showcase Sir Bani Yas Island's tourism appeal and bolster sporting events in Al Dhafra. This initiative aims to enhance both direct and indirect economic contributions to the area by increasing hotel occupancy and fostering sustainable growth among small and medium enterprises.

Our aim is to ensure the event reflects the emirate's esteemed reputation and stature at both regional and international levels."

The multi-day experience includes not only the triathlon but also various community activities tailored for participants and visitors. These activities include horseback rides within the island’s nature reserve, snorkelling, scuba diving, and kayaking in Al Dhafra Region’s vibrant waters.
