ADNEC Group's Capital Catering Wins Gold And Bronze At Gulf Sustainability Awards For Sustainable Practices
Capital Catering, a part of ADNEC Group, has been honoured at the Gulf Sustainability Awards. The company received the Gold award in the Water and Waste category for its sustainable practices. It also earned a Bronze award in the Sustainable Business Model category for its Zero Food to Landfill initiative, conducted in collaboration with ne’ma, The National Food Loss and Waste Initiative.
Humaid Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group, expressed pride in Capital Catering's achievements. Capital Catering has implemented various innovative waste management strategies as part of its sustainability commitment. These initiatives focus on reducing food waste through preventive measures. In 2024, they introduced advanced machines to convert food waste into fertilisers. This effort aligns with ADNEC Group's goal to cut food waste sent to landfills by 50% by 2030.
The Zero Food to Landfill initiative was piloted successfully, showcasing innovative ways to repurpose food waste. This project saved 728 meals, which were redistributed to those in need instead of being discarded. Additionally, 1,447 kg of food waste was composted and donated to local farms for vegetable growth.
In 2023, Capital Catering managed over 5 million kg of waste, including processing around 508,000 kg of food waste annually. This initiative supports long-term sustainability goals by significantly reducing landfill contributions. Their efforts demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental responsibility within the catering industry.
