ADNEC Group and the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy have announced a partnership to host the International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) World Congress at the ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi from 8th-12th December 2024. Capital 360 Event Experiences, the event services arm of ADNEC Group, will serve as the Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) for this significant event.
The IDRA 2024 World Congress, themed "Addressing Water Scarcity," will provide a platform for thought leadership and innovative solutions to tackle global water scarcity. The event will focus on Integrated Water Resource Management, with an emphasis on desalination and water reuse, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goal Number 6, "Water and Sanitation for All."

Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Under-Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, highlighted Abu Dhabi's extensive expertise and resources as crucial assets for achieving the conference's objectives. He noted that these efforts align with the goals of participating entities, industry leaders, experts, visitors, and stakeholders concerned with sustainability.
Al Rumaithi also emphasised the UAE's leadership in sustainable development, particularly in water conservation. He cited the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative as a testament to the nation's commitment to addressing global water scarcity through innovative technological solutions and international cooperation.
Abu Dhabi has initiated several significant projects in water desalination, including the Al Taweelah reverse osmosis desalination plant. The city employs advanced technology to enhance water efficiency and ensure water security while rationalising energy and natural resource usage. The Department of Energy has issued various regulations to maximise the benefits of recycled water and implement a water management policy in district cooling plants.
Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group, stated that hosting the IDRA World Congress aligns with ADNEC Group's strategic vision to support business tourism and international events. He acknowledged the efforts of various teams within ADNEC Group in securing the hosting rights for this prestigious global event.
The five-day IDRA World Congress 2024 will feature four parallel tracks of full-day technical sessions, high-level plenary sessions, a Leaders Summit, a Desalination Hackathon, Roundtable Sessions, IDRA Academy Courses, Plant Tours, a Welcome Reception, a Gala Dinner with Awards Ceremony, and a Closing Luncheon with Technical Award presentations.
The ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi will provide full support through its Venues operations team and venue management services. With a total surface area exceeding 153,000 square metres, it is the largest centre for exhibitions and conferences in the MENA region.
The IDRA World Congress 2024 aims to identify new sustainable water security options to meet challenges posed by predicted population growth, increased industrial water requirements, and weather fluctuations due to global climate change. The event will bring together key government stakeholders and industry leaders to discuss innovative technical and business-led solutions for a sustainable future.
