ADNEC Group Recognised With UAE Year Of Sustainability Seal For Environmental Initiatives

ADNEC Group has recently earned significant recognition for its commitment to sustainability and innovation in environmental conservation. It received the 'Plan to Action: Year of Sustainability's Seal,' a prestigious award that acknowledges UAE-based organisations for their measurable and community-focused sustainability efforts.

Central to the recognition of ADNEC Group's efforts is the transformation of its operations to prioritize sustainability. This includes the complete transition of the ADNEC Center Abu Dhabi to clean energy sources such as solar, wind, and nuclear power.

ADNEC Group Earns UAE Sustainability Seal

This shift, facilitated through a Clean Energy Trade Agreement with EWEC, positions the center as the first and largest event venue in the Middle East to be fully powered by renewable energy. It offsets all electricity-related carbon emissions with International Renewable Energy Certificates (IRECs), accredited by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy. This milestone is further complemented by the implementation of AI-driven HVAC systems projected to reduce electricity consumption by 20% annually.

ADNEC Group's commitment to sustainability extends beyond energy consumption to include waste reduction and circularity in its operations. Over half of the waste generated across its business clusters is now recycled. Initiatives like converting used cooking oil into biodiesel and processing food waste into compost underscore the group's holistic approach to sustainability.

The introduction of TerraTile, a modular flooring system made entirely from recycled event waste, offers a viable alternative to traditional stand materials, demonstrating innovation in waste management.

Moreover, ADNEC Group has made significant strides in community engagement and responsible business practices. Through collaborations with organisations like Tadweer, Ne'ma, and the UAE Red Crescent, the group has amplified its contributions to food donation, public awareness, and responsible waste management.

These efforts are complemented by ethical sourcing and an emphasis on local procurement through its In-Country Value (ICV) programme, reinforcing the group's commitment to sustainable and community-centric business practices.

In 2024, ADNEC Group's activities generated a Gross Value Added (GVA) of AED 8.566 billion to Abu Dhabi's economy, a notable increase from the AED 7.4 billion recorded in 2023. This economic impact is alongside the support of over 62,000 jobs across the UAE, marking an increase from the previous year. The group's focus on employee volunteerism nearly doubled, with total volunteer hours reaching close to 27,000 in 2024. These figures highlight the growing social and economic influence of ADNEC Group in Abu Dhabi and beyond.

Looking ahead, ADNEC Group is driving towards achieving its Net Zero strategy. This includes a comprehensive evaluation of its emissions across all scopes and a transition plan aiming to reduce the carbon footprint per employee by 25% by 2030. The group's investment in a rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) project at ADNEC Center Abu Dhabi further exemplifies its commitment to renewable energy and carbon reduction.

This project is expected to generate over 8.5 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy annually, supplying nearly 30% of the venue's electricity needs and offsetting around 6,000 metric tons of carbon emissions each year.
