ADNEC Group Unveils 2024 ESG Report

In a landmark partnership with Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi became the first venue in the MENA region fully powered by clean energy. Since November 2024, all electricity consumed at the venue has been sourced from verified clean power through Abu Dhabi Department of Energy certificates.

The centre also achieved notable environmental improvements: a 7% decrease in electricity use per event, a 28% drop in water consumption per event, and a 53% waste diversion rate from landfills through recycling efforts.

The ESG Report reveals ADNEC Group's economic impact, contributing AED 8.57 billion to Abu Dhabi’s economy and supporting over 62,000 jobs nationwide. The group has integrated ESG criteria into procurement processes to ensure suppliers contribute to emission reductions and responsible sourcing.

ADNEC Group received several accolades for its sustainability efforts. These include the UAE ‘Plan to Action: Year of Sustainability’ Seal and awards like the Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Environmental Award and Best Energy Management Initiative Award by Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group.

Sustainability Milestones

A significant achievement was hosting the 63rd ICCA Congress at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi. This event set a global standard as the first congress certified to The PLEDGE on Food Waste standard. It achieved zero food waste to landfill by redistributing nearly 2 tonnes of surplus food.

The centre also initiated a 5 MWp rooftop solar project expected to produce over 8.5 million kilowatt hours annually. This will meet about 30% of its energy needs while reducing carbon emissions by around 6,000 tonnes each year.

Humaid Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group, stated: "ADNEC Group’s achievements reflect our determination to lead by example in environmental, social, and governance principles. By combining innovation, strong partnerships, and operational excellence, we have not only reduced our footprint but also created long-term value for our stakeholders and the wider community."

The ESG Report outlines ADNEC Group's strategy for ongoing success in sustainability. It demonstrates how economic growth can coexist with social impact and environmental responsibility seamlessly.
