ADJD Celebrates Graduation Of First Cohort Of Certified Private Mediators For Civil And Commercial Disputes

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has marked a significant milestone with the graduation of its first group from a specialised training programme for certified private mediators in civil and commercial disputes. This initiative is part of ADJD's strategic plan to improve alternative dispute resolution methods, fostering a culture of peaceful settlements that aligns with Abu Dhabi's vision for a modern, investor-friendly legal framework.

Counselor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of ADJD, highlighted the programme's emphasis on equipping mediators with up-to-date principles and legal foundations for resolving disputes. "The training focused on equipping mediators with the latest principles and legal foundations in resolving civil and commercial disputes. It also enhanced their personal and professional capabilities through a balanced mix of theoretical learning and practical application, preparing them to draft legal agreements and lead effective mediation sessions."

ADJD Graduates First Cohort of Mediators

The comprehensive programme graduated 21 mediators in its first cohort. It is part of broader efforts to encourage innovation in judicial services, adopt advanced technologies, and empower the private sector to deliver high-quality legal services according to international standards. Over 31 sessions spanning 49 hours, participants delved into the vital role of private mediation in supporting national economic objectives and attracting investment.

Key Areas of Training

Participants explored various aspects including mediation stages, neutrality, confidentiality, independence, and the responsibilities of mediators both civilly and disciplinarily. The curriculum also provided insights into local and international mediation laws while enhancing communication skills with disputing parties. These elements are crucial for effective mediation.

Legal Aspects and Practical Application

Additional modules covered legal procedures related to settlement agreements, managing mediation sessions, drafting legally sound agreements, and correcting common record-keeping errors. The programme included practical case studies and guidance on using modern technology for remote mediation. This approach ensures mediators are well-prepared for real-world challenges.

This initiative reflects ADJD's commitment to fostering an innovative judicial environment that supports economic growth by providing efficient dispute resolution mechanisms. The training not only enhances mediator skills but also contributes to creating a more attractive investment climate in Abu Dhabi through improved legal services.
