ADIBF Highlights Importance Of Cultural Cooperation Between UAE And Dominican Republic

The 34th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) presents a significant chance for the Dominican Republic to enhance cultural dialogue with the UAE and the Arab world. Ambassador Renso Herrera Franco highlighted this opportunity, aiming to deepen cultural connections and explore shared values among different cultures.

Amb. Franco noted that his country is actively pursuing stronger bilateral ties with the UAE across various sectors. The focus is on leveraging the UAE's rapid development model to benefit its own growth. He mentioned that several strategic projects are underway in the Dominican Republic, inspired by the UAE's developmental and investment strategies.

The Ambassador pointed out that the UAE's strategic position between Asia and Africa offers a gateway for the Dominican Republic to access new markets. Similarly, the Dominican Republic's central location in the Americas serves as a key logistics hub for exports, enhancing its economic influence regionally and internationally.

Discussing cultural identity, Amb. Franco described his country as a unique blend of ethnicities at the Caribbean's core. Approximately 80% of its population is of mixed heritage, reflecting European, American, and African ancestries. This diversity also includes enduring Arab influences from the Andalusian era, evident in cultural and architectural aspects.

The Ambassador explained that despite being geographically smaller than other Latin American nations, the Dominican Republic ranks seventh economically among 32 countries in the region. This positions it as an emerging economic power with strong growth potential.

Ambassador Franco emphasised that participation in events like ADIBF helps strengthen cultural ties while promoting mutual understanding. He believes such interactions can lead to discovering more commonalities among diverse peoples, fostering greater cooperation between regions.

In summary, through strategic collaborations and cultural exchanges, both nations aim to bolster their economic standings while enriching their cultural landscapes. The Dominican Republic seeks to learn from the UAE's experiences to further its national development goals.
