ADIBF 2024 Panel Explores The Enduring Bond Between UAE And Egypt

At the 33rd Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF 2024), a poignant panel discussion titled ‘Egypt in My Heart’ captivated attendees with heartfelt narratives from former Emirati students who lived and studied in Cairo. The session featured esteemed speakers such as Bilal Al Budour, an Emirati academic, researcher, diplomat, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cultural and Scientific Association, alongside lawyer Hussain Al Jaziri. Egyptian journalist Sherif Amer moderated the engaging discussion.

The conversation began with a nostalgic look back at Al Jaziri's first journey to Cairo in 1972, highlighted by his preserved airline ticket adorned with the Pharaonic Queen Nefertiti's image. This ticket symbolized not only a personal journey but also the historical ties between Egypt and the Arab world. Al Jaziri shared his deep appreciation for Egypt's enduring presence in the hearts of Arabs, illustrated through a recited poem that echoed the region's long-standing connection with Egypt.

UAE-Egypt Bonds at ADIBF 2024

Al Jaziri reminisced about his time as part of the first federal student delegation from the UAE to Egypt post-Union establishment in 1971. He, along with 40 other students, pursued studies in various fields, including Sharia and law. The experience, as Al Jaziri highlighted, was not just educational but also instrumental in forging strong social bonds among Emirati students and with the Egyptian community.

Bilal Al Budour shared his unique perspective as the first Emirati student to study Arabic at Al-Azhar University amidst Egypt's challenging times during war and societal hardships. Despite these conditions, Al Budour emphasized the resilience and joy of the Egyptian people. His experiences on the streets of Egypt and interactions with fellow students from different governorates enriched his understanding of Egyptian society and significantly influenced his personal development.

The session not only celebrated Egypt's honored status at ADIBF 2024 but also underscored the profound cultural and educational exchanges between the UAE and Egypt. Through stories of personal growth, enduring friendships, and cultural immersion, ‘Egypt in My Heart’ illuminated the deep-rooted connections that continue to thrive between these two nations.
