ADFD Partners With Kenya To Advance Sustainable Development Goals Through Infrastructure And Energy Projects

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) is committed to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It focuses on enhancing infrastructure, vital services, and quality of life in partner countries. ADFD has formed a significant partnership with Kenya, aiming to advance sustainable development throughout Africa.

ADFD's collaboration with Kenya highlights its dedication to rural development through financing transport and energy projects. These investments underscore the UAE's role as a global partner in fostering economic and social progress in other nations.

ADFD and Kenya: Advancing Sustainable Development

ADFD has invested approximately AED 620 million in various development projects in Kenya. These include infrastructure, energy, water, health, and education initiatives that significantly contribute to Kenya's Vision 2030.

One notable project is the Nuno–Modogashe Road Rehabilitation Project. This 136-kilometer road was transformed from an unpaved track into a fully developed roadway. With a loan of AED 36.7 million, this project improved transportation safety and efficiency, boosted regional commerce, and strengthened social ties among rural communities.

The upgraded road has made it easier for children, especially girls, to access schools and educational services safely. Families and small business owners also benefit from improved access to goods and services.

Additionally, ADFD funded the Kenya Rural Electrification Project with another AED 36.7 million loan. This project expanded the national grid to reach thousands of homes and public facilities in remote areas, improving living conditions and economic opportunities.

Electricity Access for Remote Areas

The electrification initiative involved developing power distribution stations and new transmission lines. This ensured reliable electricity access for schools, clinics, and farms, benefiting over 20,000 people.

These efforts align with both Kenya Vision 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals by supporting infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and inclusive economic growth pillars.

ADFD remains dedicated to investing in impactful projects across Africa and other emerging regions. Its aim is to enhance quality of life and empower communities towards a more resilient future.
