Aden International Airport Upgrade Advances As SPDRY Launches Phase Three Improvements

The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction for Yemen has moved ahead with a new stage of work at Aden International Airport, targeting better services and safer operations. The latest phase focuses on improving infrastructure so the airport can handle more flights and support wider economic activity across Yemen.

The third phase includes major engineering works on the main runway at Aden International Airport, along with upgrades to navigation and communications systems. These improvements aim to support international and domestic airlines, raise operational readiness, and ensure flight management meets recognised international airport requirements for safety and organisation.

Aden Airport Upgrade Phase Three

SPDRY states that the Aden International Airport development is designed to improve the passenger experience, enhance service quality, and support logistics networks. The project also seeks to strengthen Aden’s role as an urban and commercial centre, while improving Yemen’s air connections with regional and global destinations for travellers and cargo operators.

The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction for Yemen links the airport work with broader economic and social goals. Better air transport services are expected to support trade, encourage commercial activity, and create new direct and indirect jobs. Improved traffic flow and integrated flight operations are also expected to support social ties within Yemen and with neighbouring states.

Beyond Aden International Airport, SPDRY reports that it is implementing several transport sector initiatives across Yemen. These include rehabilitating other airports, expanding port handling capacity, improving key road corridors, and enhancing border crossing performance. Together, these steps help improve essential services for the Yemeni population and support daily movement of people and goods.

The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction for Yemen notes that its Aden International Airport development and other transport projects align with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The initiatives support infrastructure upgrades, economic activity, and social connectivity, while easing travel to and from Yemen by land, sea, and air.
