ADAFSA Signs Six Strategic Cooperation Agreements To Enhance Food Security At Global Food Week

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has entered into six strategic cooperation agreements with various government, academic, and community organisations. These agreements were signed during the second edition of Global Food Week in Abu Dhabi. This event serves as a platform for promoting food security and agricultural sustainability through knowledge sharing and innovation.

The first agreement was made with the Zoo and Aquarium Public Institution in Al Ain (ZAPIA). It focuses on improving data integration between the two entities. The collaboration aims to supply Abu Dhabi’s One Health Laboratory Platform with essential data on animal diseases and agricultural pests. It also involves sample exchange, performance measurement programmes, and joint laboratory analyses to boost biosecurity.

Two agreements were signed with Khalifa University of Science and Technology. The first agreement involves research collaboration on producing functional foods from palm waste and improving poultry nutrition through fodder additives. It includes data sharing, joint experiments, and publishing scientific results. The second agreement is a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for capacity building, training programmes, workshops, and applied research.

An agreement with the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an aims to enhance community involvement in agricultural initiatives. This partnership will promote volunteerism and create participation programmes for diverse groups like people of determination and senior citizens. It also includes launching awareness campaigns about community roles in food security.

Promoting Agricultural Sustainability

A memorandum of understanding was signed with the National Agricultural Centre to promote agricultural sustainability. This partnership focuses on helping Emirati farms achieve UAE GAP certification by adopting climate-smart practices. Cooperation areas include legislative development, supply chain optimisation, reducing production losses, and promoting local produce at events.

Advancing Research and Innovation

The sixth agreement with Global Academy Limited seeks to boost research, training, and innovation collaboration. It establishes a framework for expertise exchange, human capital utilisation, and data sharing. The MoU outlines developing joint programmes for stakeholders and the public while ensuring cybersecurity standards in data exchange.

ADAFSA stated that these agreements are a strategic move towards enhancing food security through broader institutional collaboration. They aim to deliver positive societal impacts while reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s role as a regional hub for agricultural innovation.
