ADAFSA Awards Community Members For Vital Role In Reporting Food Safety Violations
The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has honoured individuals who have significantly contributed to reporting violations in food establishments across Abu Dhabi. This recognition is part of the "Food Safety is Everyone's Responsibility" initiative, which aims to promote a culture of food safety within the community and encourage public engagement in safeguarding food health.
This initiative reflects ADAFSA's commitment to involving community members in protecting food health by reporting improper practices observed in food establishments. The number of reports has been increasing, with 1,965 reports received from collaborators in 2023 and approximately 1,229 reports during the first half of 2024. This rise indicates growing awareness among community members about their role in maintaining food safety.

Basel Al Jabri, Acting Executive Director of the Control and Inspection Sector, emphasised the importance of this initiative. He stated: "This initiative confirms ADAFSA's commitment to enhancing the culture of food safety in the community and highlights the crucial role of community members in protecting food health and safety by reporting any improper practices observed in food establishments."
The reports from the public contribute to early detection of violations and ensure that establishment owners and workers adhere to all health requirements. Al Jabri added: "We appreciate the community’s response to ADAFSA’s initiatives aimed at enhancing community monitoring of food establishments and encourage everyone to actively participate in this initiative by reporting any observed violations, ensuring the health and safety of community members in Abu Dhabi."
Al Jabri also assured that all reports are handled with utmost seriousness and confidentiality. Necessary measures are taken to verify these reports and ensure that best health practices are applied across all food establishments operating in Abu Dhabi.
Encouraging Public Reporting
Al Jabri urged the public to contact ADAFSA if they detect any violations such as non-compliance or suspicion regarding food content. He encouraged them to call the toll-free number for the Abu Dhabi Government, 800555. ADAFSA's inspectors will then take necessary actions to ensure food safety for all community members.
The increasing number of reports highlights positive interaction with ADAFSA’s initiatives aimed at enhancing community monitoring of food establishments. Each report helps increase the ability to detect violations early on and enhances commitment from establishment owners and workers.
ADAFSA's efforts underscore its dedication to fostering a culture where everyone plays a part in ensuring food safety. The initiative not only promotes public engagement but also strengthens community involvement in achieving ADAFSA's goals.
