AD Ports Group Completes Key Environmental Study For New East Mole Terminal In Pointe Noire

AD Ports Group, a key player in global trade, logistics, and industry, has finalised an environmental and social impact study. This study is part of its 30-year concession agreement with the Government of the Republic of the Congo – Brazzaville for managing and operating the New East Mole Terminal in Pointe-Noire.

The study adhered to national Congolese regulations and international standards like those of the International Finance Corporation (IFC). It provides recommendations for AD Ports Group to improve social, communal, and environmental performance during both construction and operational phases.

Environmental Study for East Mole Terminal Done

A public consultation was held in May 2024 in Pointe-Noire. Stakeholders such as the Port Autonome de Pointe-Noire, Prefecture De Pointe-Noire, Marine Marchand, Mayor's office, NGOs, port operators, and ministerial representatives attended. The aim was to inform and engage relevant parties in the project's development.

AD Ports Group will equip the new facility with state-of-the-art hardware like cranes and other equipment. Additionally, digital services and technological solutions will be provided to boost efficiency while minimising environmental impact.

Mohamed Eidha Tannaf AlMenhali, Regional CEO – AD Ports Group, stated: "At AD Ports Group, we recognise our role in driving economic growth and prosperity, both locally and globally in the communities where we operate. Conducting these environmental studies before we embark on any project reflects our approach focused on integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations into our business practices to drive sustainable growth and create long-term value for all stakeholders."

Long-Term Investment

Under the agreement signed in June 2023, AD Ports Group has exclusive rights to invest in developing, operating, managing, and maintaining the New East Mole Port. This port will handle containers, general cargo, break-bulk, and other types of cargo. The agreement spans thirty years from signing with an option to extend for another twenty years under similar terms.

Throughout this concession period, AD Ports Group is dedicated to urban planning excellence alongside safety, security, and sustainability policies. Addressing environmental and social issues remains a top priority while ensuring community support.

AD Ports Group plans to invest over US$ 500 million throughout the concession's duration. Approximately US$ 220 million is earmarked for phase one of development which is expected to be completed within 30 months.

This comprehensive approach underscores AD Ports Group's commitment to sustainable growth while fostering economic prosperity in regions where it operates.
