Academics Play Vital Role In Addressing Agricultural Challenges, Says Amna Al Dahak
The Emirates Agriculture Conference and Exhibition at ADNEC Centre Al Ain is a significant event for addressing agricultural challenges. Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, highlighted its role in fostering idea exchange and solution development. The conference unites federal and local government bodies, private companies, and entrepreneurs to advance the sector by tackling current issues.
Universities and research centres play a crucial part in this initiative. They are showcasing studies that address local agricultural problems. Students are also involved, presenting innovative research projects that are being transformed into commercial ventures through start-ups. This collaboration aims to bring fresh solutions to the sector's challenges.

Around 100 farmers and producers from various specialisations are participating in the exhibition. They are sharing expertise and displaying their products. Dr. Al Dahak stressed the importance of their involvement as they form the backbone of agriculture. Their participation ensures practical insights into the sector's needs.
One of the major highlights of the exhibition is the launch of the National Agricultural Centre under the Plant the Emirates National Programme. This centre aims to create a roadmap for achieving key goals over five years, such as expanding organic farming, reducing post-harvest losses, and boosting productivity.
The National Agricultural Centre will serve as a bridge between farmers and the private sector. Its main role is to offer support and practical solutions to farmers' challenges. This initiative is expected to enhance collaboration between different stakeholders in agriculture.
Several agreements were signed during the event to address these challenges directly. These agreements focus on capacity building, providing marketing opportunities, supporting agri-tech innovation, and strengthening scientific research in agriculture.
Dr. Al Dahak emphasised that these partnerships aim to build capacities within the sector while promoting technological advancements. By doing so, they hope to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability across the UAE.
The conference serves as a platform for stakeholders to collaborate effectively. It encourages dialogue among government entities, private companies, academic institutions, farmers, and producers. This collective effort is essential for developing practical solutions that can be implemented successfully in agriculture.
