Abu Dhabi's Emergencies Centre Engages With Finnish National Rescue Association On Emergency Management Cooperation
The Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre Abu Dhabi (ADCMC) recently visited Finland to engage with the Finnish National Rescue Association (SPEK) and other relevant organisations. The aim was to learn from international best practices in emergency management and explore collaboration opportunities. This visit underscores ADCMC's dedication to enhancing its strategies and operations in managing emergencies, crises, and disasters.
During the visit, Dr. Abdulla Hamarain Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of the Response and Recovery Sector at ADCMC, shared insights into Abu Dhabi's approach to handling emergencies. He presented the centre’s strategy and operational model for crisis management in the emirate. This exchange of knowledge is part of a broader effort to align local practices with global standards.

SPEK provided an overview of their models for institutional and community preparedness. They discussed training, exercises, planning procedures, and advanced capabilities. Volunteer initiatives and civil preparedness were also highlighted, including the 72-hour preparedness concept. Coordination among response agencies was another key topic during these discussions.
Dr. Al Dhaheri emphasised that this visit aligns with Abu Dhabi Government’s vision of fostering international cooperation in emergency management. He stated that such collaborations enhance the emirate’s readiness to tackle evolving challenges while showcasing ADCMC's specialised capabilities.
Dr. Al Dhaheri noted that ADCMC is committed to improving its crisis management tools by reviewing global operational models and practices. "We are continuously working to improve our tools and methodologies in crisis management by reviewing the latest operational models," he said. The visit provided valuable insights into a model that integrates technological innovation with institutional preparedness.
The centre aims to strengthen resilience by advancing smart response capabilities and developing joint programmes. These efforts focus on enhancing team performance and preparing local talent to ensure community safety and sustainable development.
This initiative reflects ADCMC's commitment to aligning its systems with global standards while boosting local preparedness through international cooperation. By learning from global leaders like SPEK, ADCMC seeks to enhance its ability to anticipate and respond effectively to emergencies.
