Jiu-Jitsu Dreams Take Flight: Witness The Action At Abu Dhabi's Championship

As the mats heat up at the 16th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, Abu Dhabi has once again become the ultimate proving ground for the global jiu-jitsu elite. This year’s tournament has drawn an impressive crowd: 9,000 athletes representing 137 countries, all vying for a coveted spot on the podium and a chance to etch their names into the championship’s storied legacy.

The championship isn’t merely an athletic event; it’s a cultural exchange, a stage where styles from every corner of the world converge and clash in a test of skill, strength, and endurance. For some, like Max Kelly, a youth competitor from the United Kingdom, the event is a thrilling first—a chance to stand shoulder to shoulder with the sport’s best. "It’s way more exciting than I expected,” Kelly shared. “I’m thrilled to be surrounded by the international jiu-jitsu community; it’s great to see everyone here together.”

This sense of camaraderie, along with fierce competition, defines the Abu Dhabi championship. It’s a place where dreams are won or lost in a matter of holds and takedowns, where every match tells a story of months, often years, of disciplined training. For 40kg junior champion Sofia Ferreira Lima from Brazil, winning gold marked nothing short of a dream realized. “The experience was incredible,” she said. “I thank my family and my coach for their constant support.”

But it’s not just seasoned athletes or newcomers making headlines. Emirati talent Hamad Muhsen Albreiki, who clinched a bronze in the Boys GI / Junior / Grey / 60KG division, added a proud achievement to his journey. Albreiki’s performance highlights the championship’s importance not only on the international stage but in nurturing regional talent. “Winning the bronze today is a major step in my sports journey,” he shared, dedicating his victory to his family and club for their invaluable support

As the championship unfolds, Abu Dhabi solidifies its role as an epicenter for global jiu-jitsu—a place where young athletes find inspiration, seasoned professionals test their mettle, and the entire community gathers to celebrate the art of the grappling sport. With each round, another story unfolds, capturing the dedication, passion, and unyielding spirit of athletes worldwide
