Abu Dhabi University Organises International Conference On Education To Explore Future Innovations
Abu Dhabi University (ADU) recently held the "International Conference on Education: Pioneering Education’s Future" in Al Ain, UAE, from 2-3 October 2024. This hybrid event aimed to shape the educational landscape for UAE students and beyond. The conference theme was "Innovations in Teaching & Learning: Charting Higher Education’s Path Forward," organised in collaboration with several prestigious institutions.
The conference saw participation from 250 papers submitted by scholars from 25 countries, with 125 papers presented both physically and virtually. It gathered leading academics, researchers, and practitioners to discuss innovative teaching methods and address global academic challenges. The event underscored the importance of cross-border and interdisciplinary collaboration in curricula to prepare students for a globalised economy.

A diverse panel of expert speakers highlighted the need for comprehensive academic foundations. They emphasised that such foundations are crucial for meeting the demands of an interconnected world. The conference also featured ChatGPT as a panelist in a session titled "AI and Education: Revolutionizing Pedagogies and Empowering Learners," showcasing AI's growing role in enhancing education.
Professor Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor of ADU, remarked on the transformative changes in higher education driven by Gen Z students. He stated, "The landscape of higher education is poised for transformational change as we engage with a new generation of digital natives—Gen Z students, a generation that knows no boundaries whether geographic, digital or disciplinary." He noted that economic, social, and technological factors are rapidly evolving alongside AI's influence.
Dr. Mohammad Fteiha, Director of Al Ain Campus at ADU, expressed commitment to reshaping education in the UAE by collaborating with key partners. He said, "Abu Dhabi University is committed to reshaping the future of the educational sector in the UAE and beyond by working closely with key partners and industry experts to offer our students a world-class education."
Focus on Educational Innovations
The conference attracted over 200 attendees from renowned national and international organisations such as RCEP-UNESCO, Emirates College for Advanced Education, Khalifa Award for Education, QRTA, and Liwa College. Discussions covered sustainable education practices, educational technology tools, faculty development support, pedagogy, and instructional design.
Workshops were conducted to enhance virtual education delivery and ensure inclusivity in diverse classrooms. They also explored AI's role in teaching to improve outcomes for students and faculty alike. These sessions aimed at equipping educators with tools to better serve their learners.
ADU aims to continue collaborating with esteemed partners in future editions of this conference. By integrating global best practices and innovations into regional education systems, ADU seeks to prepare students to contribute effectively to national visions and strategies.
