Abu Dhabi Students Prepare For Academic Success With ADEK’s Comprehensive Pre-Departure Week Programme

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has initiated the Pre-Departure Week programme. This initiative is designed to prepare 300 students from ADEK Scholarship programmes for their studies overseas. Collaborating with 25 national and international partners, the programme aims to equip students with essential skills and knowledge, enabling them to represent the UAE proudly and succeed as global citizens.

The Pre-Departure Week provides a well-rounded preparation experience. It focuses on academic readiness, cultural adaptation, psychological resilience, and vital life skills. Sessions cover leadership development, financial literacy, personal safety abroad, and wellbeing strategies. These elements help students confidently navigate life and studies in their host countries.

Programme partners include various organisations such as the Ministry of Defence, Abu Dhabi Police, Sandooq Al Watan, National Library and Archives, and others. Nine foreign embassies also contribute their expertise. These collaborations ensure students receive comprehensive support beyond academic preparation.

Core Pillars of Support

The programme is built around 11 core pillars developed from insights by students, parents, and industry partners. These pillars focus on national identity and cultural preservation. They guide students on representing the UAE with integrity while understanding immigration laws and global mobility.

Students learn about health and safety protocols like infectious disease prevention and personal wellbeing management. The programme also covers professional etiquette and diplomatic conduct to prepare them for diverse environments. These pillars ensure students integrate confidently into host communities.

Practical Workshops for Real-Life Skills

Beyond theoretical knowledge, hands-on workshops are included in the programme. Interactive simulations are part of these workshops. The programme concludes with a global culinary class at the International Center For Culinary Arts - Abu Dhabi. Here, students gain practical cooking skills essential for independent living abroad.

To date, ADEK has awarded 2,190 scholarships to students pursuing higher education in over 20 countries. This reflects the UAE’s dedication to nurturing future global citizens who excel academically while upholding national values abroad.
