Abu Dhabi Sports Championship Engages Over 33,000 Students In Record-Breaking Season
The Abu Dhabi Sports Championship for Schools and Universities has concluded its fourth edition, marking a significant milestone with over 33,000 students participating. The event spanned from November 2024 to May 2025, involving 389 schools and 13 universities across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain Region, and Al Dhafra. Students competed in 18 different sports disciplines, making this season the largest and most successful yet.
Dr Bashaer AlMatrooshi, Executive Director of Talent Enablement at the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), expressed pride in the championship's success. "This championship reflects our unwavering commitment to nurturing student potential through sports. With over 33,000 participants, this was our biggest and most inspiring edition yet. We are proud of every student who competed, and especially those who earned recognition for their talent and determination. These students represent the best of Abu Dhabi’s future."

The championship is part of ADEK's broader talent development programme. It aims to promote a culture of physical activity in schools through a comprehensive PE curriculum and active parent engagement. This initiative aligns with ADEK’s Physical Education and School Sports Policy, which seeks to enhance well-being among students.
Talal Mustafa Al Hashemi from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council highlighted the importance of such events. "The Abu Dhabi Sports Championship reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the school and university sports ecosystem, which is the foundation for building a promising generation of athletes. The record-breaking participation and strong engagement this season confirm the tremendous potential that exists among our youth."
The closing awards ceremony was hosted by ADEK and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE). Leadership from these entities attended to recognise outstanding schools for their participation. A dedicated leaderboard showcased achievements from public, private, and charter schools.
More than 500 students were honoured during the medaling ceremony for their performance, sportsmanship, and perseverance throughout the season. The event attracted over 10,000 attendees including families and community members who enjoyed student-led entertainment alongside competitions.
The championship also featured a fan zone with tech-powered challenges and interactive experiences for visitors. This provided an engaging environment where families could enjoy live performances while supporting young athletes.
This initiative underscores a collaborative effort between ADEK, ADSC, and MoE to foster sports culture among students in the UAE. By providing platforms like these championships, they aim to discover new talents that will contribute significantly to future sports developments in the region.
