Abu Dhabi Named Safest City For 10th Consecutive Year, Says Numbeo

Abu Dhabi is confirmed as the world’s safest city for the tenth year in a row, based on the 2024 Numbeo report. The emirate keeps this lead it has held since 2017, reinforcing its position as a global hub for secure living, employment opportunities and long-term investment.

Numbeo, described as one of the world's largest cost of living databases, uses crowdsourced data to assess safety and quality of life. Its index draws on resident perceptions of crime, security and everyday risk, giving Abu Dhabi’s repeated top score strong international relevance and visibility.

Abu Dhabi: Safest City for 10th Year

This sustained ranking reflects wider policies that link safety with development, public services and economic growth. Authorities in Abu Dhabi connect security with the emirate’s attractiveness to residents, skilled professionals and investors, aligning policing strategies with long-term urban planning and social stability objectives.

Major General Sheikh Mohammed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Director General of Abu Dhabi Police, said, "This enviable global ranking embodies the success of a sound leadership vision that has placed human security at the core of sustainable development. This vision has contributed to building a safe and attractive environment for living, working and investment, and has firmly established Abu Dhabi as a leading global model in urban security and quality of life."

Major General Sheikh Mohammed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan added that this status shapes future plans for policing and public safety. He said, "This recognition reflects the Emirate’s and Abu Dhabi Police’s commitment to continuing the journey of development and innovation, moving confidently towards a safer and more sustainable future that places people at the heart of policies and projects, and enhances the confidence of residents and visitors in the advanced level of security systems and policing services."

Lieutenant General Ahmed Saif bin Zaitoon Al Muhairi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, linked the ranking to leadership support and daily policing work. Lieutenant General Ahmed Saif bin Zaitoon Al Muhairi said, "This achievement is the result of a wise leadership vision and the continued support of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, combined with an integrated institutional approach and the dedicated, around-the-clock efforts of Abu Dhabi Police personnel. "

Lieutenant General Ahmed Saif bin Zaitoon Al Muhairi highlighted how technology and community engagement strengthen these efforts. He noted that these efforts are reinforced by advanced proactive strategies, the smart deployment of modern technologies and artificial intelligence, and a strong community partnership that represents the first line of defence in safeguarding societal security and stability.

This policing model relies on building skills, cooperation and data-driven systems. "This strategy reflects a comprehensive approach based on developing human capabilities, strengthening institutional partnerships, and empowering the community through awareness and participation, alongside sustained investment in advanced technologies and smart systems that support decision-making and enhance public safety. An approach that aligns with global best practices and achieves the highest levels of community reassurance," he stressed.

The latest Numbeo findings confirm that Abu Dhabi’s mix of leadership direction, technology use and public involvement continues to deliver consistent safety results. The emirate’s ranking supports its role as a secure urban centre in the Middle East, with policies focused on residents’ confidence and long-term social and economic stability.
