Celebrities Gather In Abu Dhabi For 'Dune: Part Two' Middle East Premiere

The eagerly awaited regional premiere of "Dune: Part Two" took place on the evening of 18th February at VOX Cinemas, The Galleria, Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi. This event marked a significant moment for fans and film enthusiasts who gathered to witness the continuation of the saga that began with the six-time Academy Award-winning "Dune" (2021). The premiere was graced by the presence of filmmaker Denis Villeneuve and stars Josh Brolin and Dave Bautista, who flew in especially for the occasion.

"Dune: Part Two" is Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 novel "Dune," picking up where the previous film left off. The star-studded cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Souheila Yacoub, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem. Directed by Villeneuve, the screenplay was co-written with Jon Spaihts. The production team comprises Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Patrick McCormick, Villeneuve himself, and Tanya Lapointe.

'Dune: Part Two' Premiere Lights Up Abu Dhabi

The narrative continues the epic journey of Paul Atreides as he allies with Chani and the Fremen in a quest for vengeance against those who devastated his family. Torn between his love and the destiny of the universe, Paul faces a dire choice to avert a grim future he alone can predict. "Dune: Part Two" showcases Abu Dhabi’s Liwa desert as the backdrop for Arrakis’ vast sand dunes. Filming took place across nearly 20 locations within the Liwa desert during winter 2022. The production engaged 300 local and 250 international crew members alongside 500 extras over a 27-day shooting schedule.

The Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC) and Epic Films played pivotal roles in facilitating the production by offering logistical support. This included providing vehicles and constructing tents and camps for various purposes such as costume rooms, sets, canteens, and storage for production equipment. Additionally, "Dune: Part Two" availed of ADFC’s rebate program. Production services were supplied by Epic Films with further assistance from numerous UAE production partners.

This grand event not only highlights Abu Dhabi's growing significance in the global film industry but also showcases its stunning landscapes as ideal filming locations. The successful premiere of "Dune: Part Two" in Abu Dhabi underscores the city's capability to host major cinematic projects and its commitment to supporting the arts and cultural sector.
