ADAFSA Sets New Standards For Small-Scale Farming In Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has recently taken a significant step to enhance the agricultural sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi by regulating small-scale plant production farms. This initiative is in line with the decision of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ADAFSA No.3 of 2020, which introduced the Agricultural Requirements System for the Farms of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

This new regulation aims to foster sustainable agricultural development by ensuring the sustainability of natural resources on farms, boosting farmers' incomes, and supporting local produce. Ultimately, these measures are designed to fortify the food security system within the Emirate.

New Farming Standards in Abu Dhabi

By establishing clear guidelines for plant production on small-scale farms, ADAFSA seeks to elevate the quality and competitiveness of local agricultural products in the market. This initiative is expected to enhance the return on investment in agriculture for smallholders by providing them with a well-defined regulatory framework. It also aims to improve marketing opportunities for local products and offer technical and training support to farmers, thereby encouraging the consumption of local produce.

Eng. Ahmed Khalid Othman, Executive Director of the Agricultural Affairs Sector at ADAFSA, emphasized the Abu Dhabi Government's dedication to supporting smallholder farmers. "This decision reaffirms the Abu Dhabi Government's commitment to supporting smallholder farmers and providing a working environment that supports their efforts to achieve sustainable development in the agricultural sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and enhance food security," he stated.

Othman further highlighted ADAFSA's commitment to assisting small-scale farmers in developing their farms and increasing productivity. He mentioned that ADAFSA is focused on offering advanced extension and training services to help farmers adopt best agricultural practices and improve product quality. He expressed confidence that this regulatory decision would positively impact the agricultural sector in Abu Dhabi, contributing significantly to sustainable development and food security enhancement.

This strategic move by ADAFSA not only aims at improving the agricultural landscape in Abu Dhabi but also at ensuring that small-scale farming ventures can thrive. By providing a structured support system, ADAFSA is paving the way for a more resilient and productive agricultural sector that can meet the growing demands for local produce while maintaining environmental sustainability.
