Abu Dhabi Strengthens Quality Standards And Consumer Protection For Enhanced Safety

Abu Dhabi is enhancing its quality and regulatory systems for products and services in local markets. This effort aims to ensure consumer safety and uphold their rights. By implementing top technical standards and global best practices, the emirate strengthens its position as a leader in consumer protection. Strict regulatory policies are also adopted to support economic sustainability and boost public confidence.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) plays a key role in ensuring products and services meet approved specifications. They focus on eliminating any materials or components that could harm public health or the environment. Their integrated framework includes field inspections, specialised laboratory testing, issuing certificates, licenses, and offering technical consultations and training programmes.

Abu Dhabi Enhances Quality Standards and Safety

In the second quarter of 2025, QCC's operational sectors showed positive performance indicators across various fields. The Market and Consumer Services Sector inspected 33,452 products for compliance with specifications. They removed 20 non-compliant items from the market, corrected 17 products, verified 4,191 legal measuring instruments, and reviewed 432 packages.

The Central Testing Laboratory conducted 138,957 tests across diverse areas such as water, food, environment, construction materials, agriculture, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and transformer oils. Water tests were the most frequent among these inspections. Food and liquid tests followed closely behind with a significant rise in environmental sample testing.

During this period, the laboratory performed 76,696 water tests and 44,653 food and liquid tests. Additionally, they conducted 11,614 environmental tests and 3,843 transformer oil tests. Other areas tested included construction materials (1,709), agriculture (161), medical devices (66), cosmetics (50), along with 165 general tests. The lab also provided ten general consultations.

The Emirates Metrology Institute continued ensuring measurement accuracy by issuing 300 calibration certificates. It carried out nine inter-laboratory comparisons while delivering around eleven consulting services and providing four training programs. These efforts contribute significantly to developing national quality infrastructure.

Conformity Certification Efforts

The Conformity and Standards Services Sector issued 1,444 individual service conformity certificates during this time frame. They renewed 2,832 certificates along with renewing 108 product conformity certificates while issuing twenty-one new ones. Furthermore they granted thirty-eight product registration certificates approved twenty-one new Trustmark licenses renewing eight existing ones.

The QCC relies on effective partnerships with government entities to implement precise regulatory plans. Advanced methodologies are adopted to enhance service quality while supporting national product competitiveness locally regionally globally.
