Abu Dhabi City Municipality Leads Campaign To Promote Food Waste Reduction

In a significant step towards sustainability and community welfare, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, in collaboration with its sub-centres, has launched an awareness campaign aimed at reducing food waste. This initiative, conducted in partnership with the Emirates Red Crescent Authority's Preservation of Grace Project, targets all community members within the Municipality's geographical scope. The campaign's primary goal is to foster a culture of giving among community members while highlighting the adverse effects of food waste on both the economy and the environment.

The campaign emphasizes the importance of adopting sustainable practices such as avoiding unhealthy eating habits, reducing the amount of food prepared, purchasing only what is necessary, and curbing excessive and impulsive shopping. These measures are not only crucial for preserving resources but also for ensuring their sustainability and minimizing the need for waste disposal and recycling.

Moreover, the initiative encourages community members to conserve resources, maximize their use, and collaborate in redistribiting surplus food that is fit for consumption. This effort is part of a broader aim to reduce food waste and support those in need by facilitating the redistribution of surplus food through the "Preservation of Grace" Project. Community members have been informed about the project and guided on how to contact the relevant authorities to hand over surplus food, ensuring it reaches the intended recipients safely and according to proper procedures.

To maximize outreach and engagement, the campaign leveraged various channels for disseminating awareness publications. This included the Municipality's official social media accounts and the "Freejna" application, alongside sending targeted awareness messages to specific groups within the community. Through these efforts, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality seeks to promote positive behavior aligned with sustainable development goals, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive community.
