Abu Dhabi Launches First Mobility Week to Lead in Smart Transport Innovation

The Department of Municipalities and Transport – Abu Dhabi (DMT) has unveiled plans for the first-ever Abu Dhabi Mobility Week, scheduled from 24 April to 1 May 2024. This event is poised to redefine transportation paradigms in the Emirate through a series of groundbreaking announcements, forums, and showcases. The week aims to bolster Abu Dhabi's status as a frontrunner in smart and autonomous mobility.

Abu Dhabi Mobility Week will commence with the DMT revealing a comprehensive mobility strategy on 24 April. This strategy will cover various sectors including land transport, aviation, maritime activities, and licensing services, highlighting DMT's vision for the future of mobility in the region.

Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of the DMT, emphasized the event's role in driving transformative advancements in mobility. He remarked on the strategic importance of this initiative in demonstrating Abu Dhabi's commitment to innovation and progressive transformation in transportation.

The DMT also announced its role as the official host for DRIFTx from 24 to 26 April. This leadership and exhibition platform, organized with the Smart and Autonomous Vehicles Industry (SAVI) Cluster and the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), will gather international leaders to discuss smart, sustainable mobility solutions. Badr Al-Olama, Director General of ADIO, highlighted DRIFTx as a pivotal event for global innovators in transportation.

Racing fans can look forward to the debut of the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) on 27 April at Yas Marina Circuit. This event will feature autonomous races with teams from around the globe competing for a prize fund of USD $2.25 million (approximately AED 8 million).

The week will conclude with the Mobility Live ME conference from 30 April to 1 May at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. Abdulla Al Marzouqi, Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), noted this event as a testament to Abu Dhabi's dedication to sustainable transport solutions.

In addition to these main events, Abu Dhabi Mobility Week will include various community engagements such as safety initiatives, health events, university research collaborations, and school activities aimed at inspiring future innovators in mobility.

This comprehensive approach underscores Abu Dhabi's commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration in shaping the future of mobility. Through these initiatives, Abu Dhabi is not only showcasing its dedication to sustainable transportation but also setting a benchmark for global cities to follow.
