Abu Dhabi Mobility Highlights Sustainable Transport Innovations At EVIS 2025

Abu Dhabi is advancing its commitment to smart, low-emission transport systems. The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, is participating in the Electric Vehicles Innovation Summit (EVIS 2025). This event, held from 21st to 23rd April 2025, serves as a key platform for sustainable mobility and electric vehicle innovation in the region.

During the summit, Abu Dhabi Mobility highlighted several strategic projects aimed at enhancing transport efficiency and promoting clean mobility. One major initiative is the "Green Bus Programme," which aims to transform Abu Dhabi Island into a green public transport zone by 2030. This programme aligns with the UAE's Net Zero by 2050 strategy, focusing on climate neutrality.

The Green Bus Programme involves partnerships with local and international entities to deploy lithium-ion electric buses and hydrogen-powered buses. Initially covering Abu Dhabi Island and key urban centres, future expansions are planned across the Emirate. This initiative is crucial for reducing emissions and promoting sustainable public transport.

Another significant project showcased was "Charge AD." This initiative focuses on developing an advanced EV charging infrastructure throughout roads and public parking areas. It aims to engage the private sector while providing a seamless digital user experience. This project supports Abu Dhabi's transition towards electric mobility.

Abu Dhabi Mobility also presented its autonomous vehicle expansion project, launched in 2021. Since then, these vehicles have covered over 500,000 kilometres with minimal human intervention. Operated by companies like Space 42, Uber (with Tawasul), and AutoGo (with Apollo Go - Baidu), they feature technologies such as LiDAR, radar, high-resolution cameras, AI systems, and HD map navigation.

This autonomous vehicle initiative aims to increase autonomous mobility to 25% by 2040 across land, marine, and urban air transport. The goal is to enhance transport efficiency and improve urban living standards in Abu Dhabi.

Commitment to Sustainable Transport

Dr. Abdulla Hamad Al Ghfeli, Acting Director-General of the Integrated Transport Centre, emphasised the importance of clean mobility solutions for improving quality of life. He stated that their participation in EVIS 2025 showcases pioneering initiatives supporting Abu Dhabi’s vision for smarter transport.

"Our participation in the Electric Vehicles Summit 2025 is a valuable opportunity to showcase the pioneering initiatives we are leading as part of Abu Dhabi’s vision for a smarter and more sustainable transport future. It reflects our commitment to supporting the UAE’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050."

He further explained that three strategic projects form key pillars of their approach: "These include the Green Bus Programme, aimed at providing clean public transport through electric and hydrogen-powered buses; the Charge AD project to expand EV charging infrastructure; and the autonomous vehicles project, which marks a significant step forward in adopting smart mobility technologies and AI-driven innovation."

Global Collaboration at EVIS 2025

The Electric Vehicles Innovation Summit (EVIS 2025) gathers experts from around the world to share insights on electric transport advancements. This collaboration contributes significantly to shaping smart and sustainable mobility in Abu Dhabi.

Al Ghfeli reiterated Abu Dhabi Mobility's dedication to transitioning towards sustainable transport systems that enhance quality of life while positioning Abu Dhabi as a leader in environmental practices globally.
