Abu Dhabi Mobility Hosts Shenzhen Delegation To Discuss Digital Transformation In Transport Sector
The Integrated Transport Centre of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi recently welcomed a delegation from Shenzhen, China. This group was led by Xu Wei, Deputy Director-General of the Shenzhen Transport Office. The visit focused on sharing advancements in transport digitalisation across land, maritime, and aviation sectors between the two cities.
Abu Dhabi aims to become a global leader in smart transport solutions. The meeting marked the launch of a digital transformation project for public transport in Abu Dhabi. This initiative seeks to improve operational efficiency and offer advanced transport services through a government-to-government partnership with Shenzhen. The project will incorporate artificial intelligence and digitise public transport service delivery.

Xu Wei shared insights into Shenzhen's smart transport systems, which use cutting-edge technologies for digital transformation. He explained how the city regulates automated and connected vehicles using a management system to ensure safe operations. Additionally, he discussed drone management and air transport infrastructure in Shenzhen.
Emirati employees will receive training in modern digital skills related to transport. This training focuses on enhancing user experience and reducing environmental impacts by adopting sustainable solutions. These efforts align with an agreement signed between Abu Dhabi Mobility and the Shenzhen Urban Transport Planning Centre in January 2024.
During their visit, the delegation viewed two electric buses from China used in Abu Dhabi's Green Bus Programme. One bus is an 18-metre articulated electric model, unique in the Middle East. Xu Wei expressed his pleasure at seeing these buses integrated into the programme.
Strengthening Ties
Abdulla Al Marzouqi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Mobility, highlighted the significance of Xu Wei's visit. He stated that it underscores both cities' commitment to collaboration. "We look forward to enhancing cooperation with Shenzhen and leveraging their extensive expertise and knowledge," he said.
The partnership aims to explore new opportunities and share experiences for mutual benefit. It also seeks to strengthen ties between Abu Dhabi and Shenzhen as they work together on digital transformation projects.
Shenzhen's advanced electric vehicle charging units were also discussed during the meeting. These units aim to boost renewable energy efficiency within the transport sector, showcasing another area where both cities can learn from each other.
This collaboration represents a significant step towards achieving sustainability goals while positioning Abu Dhabi as a leading destination for innovation in technology globally.
