Abu Dhabi Mobility Unveils New Category Of Commercial Motorcycle Licence Plates For Economic Growth

The Integrated Transport Centre of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi has introduced a new category of commercial motorcycle plates. This initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi's vision for sustainable development and economic growth. The plates will be officially available from 1st January 2025, aiming to meet the needs of businesses and consumers in the commercial transport sector.

Abu Dhabi Mobility is committed to enhancing economic efficiency and community life quality. The new plates, marked by a specific colour, are part of this effort. Yellow was chosen for commercial motorcycle plates due to its association with economic activities, setting them apart from personal use plates.

New Commercial Motorcycle Licence Plates in Abu Dhabi

This initiative reflects Abu Dhabi Mobility’s dedication to developing sustainable transport infrastructure. It aims to improve commercial transport efficiency through motorcycles, targeting companies using them for transport or delivery. The initiative also ensures compliance with specified standards and enhances commercial transport operations in Abu Dhabi.

Mohammed Al Braik Al Ameri, Executive Director of the Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Sector, highlighted the initiative's role in boosting road safety and traffic flow. Different licence plates will help identify whether a vehicle is privately or commercially owned, improving traffic system efficiency.

The introduction of these plates will aid in effective database management and motorcycle classification. It will also support the development of governmental procedures related to motorcycles and economic activities. This move is expected to enhance road safety and security while improving motorcycle traffic flow.

Abu Dhabi Mobility has disclosed that there are 10,579 private motorcycles which will retain red licence plates. Meanwhile, 26,186 commercial motorcycles owned by companies must switch from red to yellow plates. This change aims to streamline identification processes for different types of ownership.

Plate Replacement Process

Users can replace their motorcycle plates under certain conditions such as registering a new motorcycle or transferring ownership while changing the plate number. Replacements are also possible if the licence plate is damaged or lost. There are 15 factories across Abu Dhabi producing these new licence plates.

The introduction of these commercial motorcycle plates marks a significant step towards regulating transport activities in Abu Dhabi. By ensuring compliance with standards, it supports both economic growth and sustainable development goals set by the region.
