Abu Dhabi Masterpieces Collection: Second Exhibition-Dossier Showcases Historic Artworks
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has introduced the second edition of the Abu Dhabi Masterpieces Collection: Exhibition-Dossiers. This event showcases historically significant artworks, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's status as a prominent cultural hub. The exhibition presents key art pieces that offer insights into art history, providing rare public access to these masterpieces.
Among the notable works is an 18th-century pair by Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin. These paintings, Still Life with Musical Instruments, Basket of Fruit and Guitar and Musical Instruments and Parrot, were commissioned together but separated in 2014. They are now reunited, showcasing Chardin’s expertise in light, texture, and composition while celebrating music, nature, and everyday beauty.

Jean-Michel Basquiat’s dynamic piece, El Gran Espectaculo (The Nile), offers a striking contrast within the exhibition. Created in 1983 during the peak of Basquiat's career, this triptych delves into complex historical themes through his unique artistic style. The vibrant work stands out for its exploration of intricate narratives.
The exhibition aims to preserve and present significant artworks, inviting both art enthusiasts and scholars to engage with the collection. It encourages participation in national and international art discussions. Guided tours will be available to enhance audience engagement and deepen connections with each artwork's story.
The launch of this second exhibition underscores DCT Abu Dhabi’s dedication to safeguarding cultural heritage. By building a world-class collection for future generations, they aim to protect cultural legacies. The initiative highlights their commitment to fostering appreciation for art across diverse audiences.
This exhibition series not only showcases important works but also invites viewers to immerse themselves in art history. It provides an opportunity for deeper understanding and appreciation of artistic achievements throughout time.
The Abu Dhabi Collection continues to attract attention from art lovers worldwide by offering unique insights into historical masterpieces. Through these exhibitions, DCT Abu Dhabi strengthens its role as a leader in promoting cultural awareness and education on a global scale.
