Abu Dhabi's ITC Champions Road Safety At GCC Traffic Week 2024
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in Abu Dhabi has announced its participation in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Traffic Week 2024. Scheduled from 3rd to 9th March 2024, this year's theme, "Driving Without a Phone," aims to enhance road safety and promote a culture of attentive driving among community members.
As part of its commitment to traffic safety, the ITC's involvement is coordinated under the umbrella of the Joint Committee for Traffic Safety. This committee is led by the DMT and includes key members such as the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and the Abu Dhabi Health Department.

Throughout GCC Traffic Week, the ITC has planned several initiatives to engage with the public and spread awareness about safe driving practices. One notable activity is the establishment of an interactive platform at Zayed International Airport's Arrivals Hall. This setup is designed to introduce arriving passengers to the week's objectives, showcasing interactive surveys, videos, and awareness messages focused on the dangers of using phones while driving.
In addition to this, the campaign's slogan has been prominently displayed on "Darb" tariff boards at Abu Dhabi's entrances and across various digital signs throughout the city. These displays serve as constant reminders to drivers about the importance of focusing on the road and avoiding distractions such as mobile phones.
A workshop conducted by the Technical Committee for Traffic Safety also forms a part of the week's activities. This session aims to delve into the causes of accidents attributed to distractions, with a significant focus on mobile phone usage while driving.
Abdulla Al Marzouqi, Director-General of the ITC, highlighted the critical role of GCC Traffic Week in addressing dangerous driving habits. He stressed that mobile phone use while driving significantly detracts from a driver's concentration, increasing the risk of severe traffic accidents.
The Federal Traffic Council sponsors GCC Traffic Week 2024 under its timely theme. These efforts are aligned with Abu Dhabi's vision to foster a safer transport system by improving driving habits and minimizing human errors, ultimately aiming to reduce traffic accidents and injuries.
This initiative underscores a collective effort towards promoting road safety and underscores the importance of responsible driving behaviors within the UAE community. Through educational activities and awareness campaigns, GCC Traffic Week 2024 seeks to instill a culture of safety that resonates with drivers across the nation.
