Abu Dhabi Investment Office Launches Comprehensive Automotive Programme To Boost Economic Growth
The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) has unveiled a significant economic initiative aimed at creating a comprehensive automotive ecosystem. Supported by substantial investments from global industry leaders, this programme seeks to establish Abu Dhabi as the leading hub in the region for smart automotive manufacturing, research and development, restoration, auctions, and luxury vehicles.
During the Make it in the Emirates Forum 2025 (MIITE), it was revealed that this automotive programme is expected to add AED100 billion to Abu Dhabi’s GDP by 2045. It aims to attract over AED8 billion in foreign direct investment and generate 7,000 high-skilled jobs. The programme will include advanced R&D and engineering centres, along with participation from Tier 1 and 2 suppliers and premium OEMs.

A key aspect of the automotive programme is talent development. ADIO has partnered with leading universities to create the region’s first Automotive AI Curriculum focused on product design. This curriculum integrates advanced research, AI training, and international placements to embed local talent into the global mobility value chain.
Badr Al-Olama, Director General of ADIO, stated that "Backed by automotive OEMs, our automotive programme is a defining step in Abu Dhabi’s evolution as a global economic powerhouse." He emphasised that this initiative reinforces Abu Dhabi's strength in advanced manufacturing and future mobility while reflecting its long-term vision for building competitive ecosystems.
Mohammad Ali Al Kamali, Chief Industry and Trade Officer at ADIO, highlighted that the launch of the automotive programme moves beyond assembly to create an end-to-end manufacturing ecosystem. He explained that this ecosystem allows global OEMs, specialist suppliers, and emerging technology players to co-locate and collaborate in Abu Dhabi.
More than ten commercial and investment agreements were announced during the MIITE Forum as part of this programme. Leading manufacturers like Genesis and ROX Motors confirmed new manufacturing agreements with W Motors in Abu Dhabi. These collaborations position the emirate as a production hub for both regional and international markets.
Comprehensive Manufacturing Ecosystem
The involvement of AIH Group as the technical lead for high-volume vehicle production marks a significant step forward. This group is one of the world’s largest automotive assembly providers now embedded in Abu Dhabi's local manufacturing landscape. The programme also includes partnerships with local supply chains such as Borouge for lightweight materials and Enercap for battery systems.
These investments are crucial in shaping Abu Dhabi’s automotive future by combining advanced manufacturing with innovative design and sustainable mobility solutions. By anchoring world-class talent, technology, and supply chains within the emirate, this initiative sets a new benchmark for industrial excellence both regionally and globally.
