Abu Dhabi ILCA 4 Sailing Team Heads To Oman For Intensive Training Camp Ahead Of Championship
The Abu Dhabi ILCA 4 sailing team has embarked on a journey to Oman for an intensive training camp. This 10-day session in Ras Al Hadd is part of their preparation for the Oman ILCA Championship. The camp is designed to enhance the skills of national talents, aligning with the technical programme aimed at future international competitions.
Ras Al Hadd was selected due to its excellent maritime conditions, offering steady winds and favourable weather. These factors make it an ideal location for modern sailing training. The ILCA class, especially ILCA 4, benefits greatly from such natural settings, which are crucial for effective training.

The team comprises eight promising young sailors from the UAE: Abdullah Yahya Al Zubaidi, Abdullah Mohammed Al Niyadi, Omar Qais Qandil, Abdullah Fahad Al Muhairi, Saleh Hassan Al Hammadi, Abdulrahman Abdullah Al Hajri, Abdullah Yousuf Al Hammadi, and Saif Tareq Al Marzouqi. They are under the guidance of coach Patrick Lutomski and accompanied by media representative Khalid Al Saadi.
This training camp aims to boost the athletes' physical and technical readiness. It provides them with a chance to hone their skills in a real-life racing environment that mimics international regattas. The team is set to compete in the Oman ILCA Championship, a significant event in this season's calendar.
The ILCA 4 class is recognised as an Olympic category and serves as a solid foundation for young sailors aspiring to advance into more competitive classes like ILCA 6 and ILCA 7. Known for its technical challenges and high-level tactics, ILCA 4 is seen as a gateway to European and global competitions.
The Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Academy, supported by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and closely monitored by the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation, remains committed to nurturing national sailing talents. They provide professional training opportunities in realistic environments, aligning with the UAE's goal of achieving global representation in modern sailing.
Commitment to Excellence
Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Academy, highlighted that this camp reflects their strategic vision of preparing a new generation of sailors capable of competing internationally. "Our goal is to provide the best training environment for our young athletes. This external camp offers a vital opportunity to strengthen their abilities in real conditions. ILCA 4 is the entryway to the Olympic sailing world, and we are committed to equipping our national talents to rise to upcoming challenges," Al Suwaidi stated.
