Abu Dhabi Records 4.8 Million Hotel Visitors Year-to-Date October 2024 Amid Tourism Growth

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has reported a significant rise in hotel guests, with 4.8 million visitors recorded by October 2024. This marks a 26% increase in international guests compared to the previous year. Additionally, cultural events and landmarks in the emirate attracted over 3.9 million visitors, reflecting a 21% growth from 2023.

Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Under-Secretary of DCT Abu Dhabi, stated that their journey has been transformative as they share Abu Dhabi globally. Guided by the refreshed Tourism Strategy 2030 and Culture Strategy, the results highlight Abu Dhabi’s dedication to excellence and sustainable growth. The focus is on crafting authentic experiences and developing infrastructure.

Abu Dhabi Welcomes 4.8 Million Hotel Guests in 2024

From January to October 2024, Abu Dhabi surpassed pre-pandemic figures with a notable increase in international guests from key markets like India, China, Russia, the UK, and Saudi Arabia. The emirate's cultural sites also experienced a surge in visitors this year, underscoring the success of its cultural initiatives.

Abu Dhabi's Tourism Strategy 2030 aims to attract 39.3 million visitors by 2030. It plans to create 178,000 new jobs in tourism and contribute AED90 billion to GDP through various initiatives. These initiatives focus on city activation, marketing, infrastructure development, and regulatory improvements.

The City Tourism Briefing recently showcased advancements in tourism and aviation sectors. Zayed International Airport now hosts 24 airlines, enhancing its status as a travel hub. Etihad Airways introduced ten new routes in 2024 while Wizz Air Abu Dhabi connects travellers to numerous destinations worldwide.

Expanding Global Presence

DCT Abu Dhabi is expanding into new markets while strengthening existing ones through trade initiatives like roadshows and training programmes. Collaborations with travel partners aim to elevate Abu Dhabi’s profile as a premier destination for leisure, business events, arts, culture, heritage, and more.

Significant projects include expanding Warner Bros. World with Harry Potter World and developing Saadiyat Cultural District by 2025. Hudayriyat Island will become a sports centre while Yas Waterworld will see enhancements. These projects are set to boost entertainment and cultural offerings in the region.

The emirate's coordinated efforts in tourism and culture development have positioned it as a global leader in these sectors. By fostering talent and community engagement alongside key partnerships, Abu Dhabi continues to shape itself into a thriving destination for tourists worldwide.
