Abu Dhabi To Host The 8th International Symposium On Radiological Protection In October 2025
The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has announced that Abu Dhabi will host the 8th International Symposium on the System of Radiological Protection from 7th to 9th October 2025. This event, organised with the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), is expected to attract nearly 500 experts and stakeholders globally, highlighting its significance in radiation protection.
This year's theme, "Advancing Radiological Protection: Innovation, Integrity and Sustainability," will explore vital topics in medical, industrial, environmental, security, and technological applications. The symposium will offer a platform for discussing emerging health effects of radiation, dosimetry, ethics in radiological protection, and applications across various sectors.

The programme includes panels on radiological protection in space exploration and artificial intelligence in medical imaging. Discussions will also cover proton and heavy-ion therapies and the justification and optimisation of radiation use. These sessions aim to provide insights into scientific advancements and ethical considerations shaping radiological protection's future.
Christer Viktorsson, Director-General of FANR, stated, "Hosting this event for the second time reflects the UAE’s firm commitment to strengthening global cooperation in radiological protection. Our robust national infrastructure, supported by strategic partnerships and innovative programmes, makes the UAE a role model for ensuring the safe and peaceful use of nuclear and radiation applications and technologies."
This symposium marks the second occasion the UAE has hosted this prestigious event. It underscores the nation's growing influence as a global centre for nuclear safety and radiological protection. The gathering will serve as a unique opportunity for experts to exchange knowledge and experiences while advancing global efforts in this field.
Participants will gain valuable insights into practical applications worldwide through these discussions. The event reaffirms the UAE’s leadership role in nuclear safety and security by providing a collaborative platform for sharing expertise.
The three-day event promises to be one of the largest international gatherings dedicated to radiation protection. It highlights the UAE's commitment to fostering innovation and integrity within this critical sector while promoting sustainable practices globally.
