Historic Launch Of Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu Championship In Rome

In a significant development for the global Jiu-Jitsu community, the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Professional (AJP), in collaboration with the International Vision Sports Management (IVSM), marked its first-ever Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu World Tour event in Rome. The event, which took place from April 12th to April 14th at the Centro Olimpico Matteo Pellicone, saw the participation of over a thousand athletes from 60 countries across various categories including Youth, Amateur, Professional, and Master.

The presence of Abdulla Ali Al Saboosi, UAE Ambassador to Italy, underscored the event's significance. The tournament attracted top-tier competitors and teams from around the globe, highlighting its status as a premier destination for Jiu-Jitsu practitioners. Rodrigo Valerio, Director of Operations at AJP, emphasized the championship's decade-long success in drawing a large number of participants and its pivotal role in the sport's global landscape.

Rome's strategic location in Europe and its appeal as a sports tourism destination during this period were among the key reasons for launching the tour in the Italian capital. The event not only showcased elite champions but also set the stage for future successes, with anticipation building for the season-closing Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu World Tour next May.

Brazilian black belt Thiago Barreto from the Emirati academy "Commando Group" clinched gold in the Masters category under 69kg. Barreto expressed his eagerness to accumulate points throughout the championship rounds and thanked the UAE and organizers for their support. Similarly, Ariadne de Olivera from Al Ain Club secured gold in the women’s Master category under 55 kg, sharing her preparation journey and excitement about participating in such a prestigious international event.

Noteworthy participants included Professional black belt athletes Yuri Hendrex, Leonardo Mario, Jefferson Fagundes from PSLPB Cicero Costha Academy, Lucas Protasio from Checkmat, and Uanderson Ferreira from Commando Group. On the women’s side, notable competitors were Yara Nascimento from Fratres, Julia Alves from GFTeam, and Ingridd Sousa and Ana Rodrigues from DreamArt.
