Abu Dhabi Enhances Autism Support With New DoH ABA Guidelines

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has introduced new Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Guidelines for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This initiative aims to enhance care for People of Determination (PoD) in the Emirate. These guidelines align with Abu Dhabi’s Comprehensive Strategy for PoD 2020-2024, which focuses on a societal and rights-based approach to disabilities.

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is a research-based therapy designed for individuals with autism and other developmental disorders. It aims to increase positive behaviors while reducing negative ones. The new guidelines aim to standardise ASD care by integrating evidence-based practices with international standards, ensuring consistency and quality in ABA services across the Emirate.

New Autism Care Guidelines in Abu Dhabi

The guidelines are intended to empower healthcare and education professionals to work together effectively. This collaboration is expected to provide holistic and impactful care for patients with ASD, particularly focusing on children and their families. Dr. Rashed Obaid Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of Healthcare Workforce Planning at DoH, emphasised Abu Dhabi's commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. Dr. Al Suwaidi also highlighted the proactive measures taken by DoH to elevate specialised care and improve healthcare outcomes in the Emirate. He added: "Reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading destination for healthcare, the release of the ABA guidelines marks another proactive approach taken by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi to elevate specialised care and enhance healthcare outcomes in the Emirate."
