Abu Dhabi's Health Department Boosts Maternity And IVF Services
The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulatory authority for the healthcare sector in the Emirate, has recently disclosed impressive figures for the year 2023, highlighting the robustness of its maternal and delivery services. The Emirate witnessed over 30,000 birth deliveries, with a significant majority, 94 percent, being natural pregnancies and deliveries. The remaining 6 percent were achieved through Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART), showcasing the advanced reproductive medical services available in Abu Dhabi.
Ensuring the provision of top-tier maternal care, over 2,500 dedicated healthcare professionals are employed across the sector. This team comprises 642 specialists and consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBGYN), bolstered by the support of 383 midwives and 39 resident assistants. Their expertise spans various critical areas including Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM), reproductive medicine and infertility, anaesthesiology, critical care, radiology, sonography, and embryology.

Abu Dhabi stands out on the global stage with its In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) procedures success rate reaching an impressive 42 percent. This figure not only underscores the Emirate's commitment to excellence in healthcare but also positions it as one of the leading destinations for fertility treatments worldwide. In 2022 alone, more than 4,800 couples received IVF and other fertility treatments in Abu Dhabi, benefiting from a comprehensive range of services such as egg storage, fertilisation, embryo transplantation among others.
The Emirate is home to 12 licensed healthcare facilities that specialize in providing assisted reproductive services. This is part of Abu Dhabi's broader strategy to enhance its assisted reproductive medical services, attracting individuals and couples from across the region seeking these treatments.
DoH’s ongoing commitment to developing regulations and policies aims at ensuring access to and quality of various assisted reproductive services. These regulations are designed to provide couples with seamless services and treatments that align with international standards and best practices. By working closely with stakeholders across the healthcare sector, DoH strives to safeguard the population’s health and enhance longevity through the delivery of comprehensive and timely healthcare services to all community members.
