Abu Dhabi Department Of Energy Honoured With Visionary Leadership Award At IDRA World Congress 2024 Gala

The Department of Energy - Abu Dhabi (DoE) was honoured with the Visionary Leadership for the Most Progressive Disruptive Policy in Water Reuse Award at the IDRA World Congress 2024 Gala Awards Dinner. This accolade, presented at the Emirates Palace Hotel, acknowledges DoE's innovative approach to water challenges and its dedication to pioneering policies in water reuse. The event saw participation from senior leaders in energy and water sectors alongside congress attendees.

Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, Chairman of the DoE, accepted the award, stating: "Receiving the Visionary Leadership Award is a testament to Abu Dhabi's commitment to pioneering sustainable solutions in water management. This recognition highlights the innovative projects and policies Abu Dhabi’s water sector has implemented to drive impactful change in water sustainability. When we collaborate, we can achieve significant change in water sustainability, making a lasting impact on communities across the world."

DoE Abu Dhabi Wins Visionary Leadership Award

The Mohamed Bin Zayed Water Initiative also received recognition with the IDRA Presidential Award during this event. This award highlights its vital role in tackling global water issues. The Gala Awards Dinner served as a key moment of the Congress, uniting experts and leaders in desalination, water reuse, and sustainability to celebrate progress aligned with addressing water scarcity.

The IDRA World Congress 2024 concluded with an inspiring Closing Ceremony at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi. Under the theme ‘Addressing Water Scarcity,’ it addressed urgent challenges while promoting discussions on sustainability and innovation. Over 1,200 participants from more than 50 countries attended, marking it as one of the largest gatherings of industry leaders and policymakers.

Throughout the Congress, more than 225 research papers were presented. It featured over 100 technical sessions, keynote speeches, thematic panels, and a Leaders Summit aimed at sharing transformative insights into global water management. Notable events included a Hackathon at Khalifa University, an XPRIZE Team Summit, and plant tours.

Focus on Technological Advancements

Key discussions centred around integrating renewable energy into desalination processes and advancements in water reuse technologies. The use of AI and digital solutions to improve operational efficiency was also explored. A significant focus was on exchanging insights about the water-energy nexus to address high residential consumption issues.

Fady Juez, President of IDRA, praised the collaborative spirit that defined this event: "The IDRA World Congress 2024 has been an incredible platform for shaping the future of global water management. Abu Dhabi’s leadership has been instrumental in advancing this agenda, and we are inspired by the progress made during this exceptional week."

Plans for future events were confirmed during the Closing Ceremony. The next IDRA World Congress will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2026. This ensures that efforts towards innovative solutions for global water challenges continue unabated.
