Abu Dhabi Department Of Energy Unveils Foresight Reports To Guide Energy Transition And Sustainability

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has introduced a series of "Foresight Reports" to proactively address rapid changes in the energy sector. These reports align with the department's strategy to anticipate future trends and scenarios, enabling informed decision-making for innovation and sustainability.

The primary goal of these reports is to systematically analyse potential future scenarios like technological advancements and policy changes affecting the energy sector. By leveraging foresight information, the DoE aims to foster innovation and enhance efficiency. The reports guide strategic decisions, helping mitigate risks and seize new opportunities.

Abu Dhabi Launches Foresight Reports for Energy

The first report, titled "The Ammonia Economy – Ammonia-based Fuel and the Use of Ammonia for Energy Storage and Delivery," delves into ammonia's role in hydrogen production and sustainable technologies. It identifies trends for developing this economy and outlines necessary goals and steps.

Dr. Shamma Al Malik, Director of Strategy Development at the DoE, stated: "The Foresight Reports aim to inspire the forward-looking visions of our wise leadership and the ambitious aspirations of the UAE government while addressing the challenges facing energy transition, sustainability, water security, and the development of energy efficiency technologies. Through these reports, we strive to build a deep knowledge base and extract precise information that enables us to ensure full readiness to face future challenges."

The second report examines graphene-based technologies in water applications such as desalination and purification. Titled "The Future of Water Sustainability through the Graphene Revolution," it provides a framework for enhancing water sustainability by identifying trends and potential actions.

The third report, "The Race to Harness Space Solar Power – New Horizons for Energy," evaluates space solar power technology's feasibility. It aligns with UAE's renewable goals, envisioning a carbon-free future. The report outlines objectives for developing this technology.

The fourth report focuses on smart grid advancements linked with artificial intelligence in energy management. Titled "The Future of Enhancing Renewable Energy through Smart Grids and Artificial Intelligence," it identifies trends for grid development and outlines necessary goals.

Dr. Al Malik further emphasized: "The issuance of these four reports reaffirms the Department of Energy's commitment to achieving an effective transformation in the energy sector by promoting the use of clean and renewable energy and anticipating the future needs of the industry. These reports will undoubtedly form a fundamental basis for decision-making, further enhancing Abu Dhabi's leadership position in the global energy transition journey and driving sustainable growth toward a prosperous future."

She also stressed ongoing collaboration with partners to deliver advanced solutions in clean energy. The department continues developing plans to accelerate efforts towards UAE's net-zero emissions goal by 2050.
