Abu Dhabi Department Of Energy Promotes Sustainability Through Educational Initiative For Students
The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) are continuing their Future Pioneers programme. This initiative aims to educate students in Abu Dhabi about conserving energy and water, aligning with the Abu Dhabi Energy and Water Efficiency Strategy 2030. It targets around 10,000 Grade 11 and 12 students across the emirate.
Through interactive sessions, the programme raises awareness about resource challenges and encourages responsible energy and water use at home and in the community. It also nurtures critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills, inspiring students to create innovative solutions for a sustainable future.

Ahmed Al Falasi, Executive Director of the Energy Efficiency Sector at DoE, highlighted that this initiative reflects DoE's commitment to fostering community awareness for future generations. He stated, "This initiative emulates DoE commitment to advancing community awareness for the generations to come." The goal is not just promoting consumption efficiency but also cultivating a mindful generation equipped with skills to tackle sustainability challenges.
Al Falasi further explained that student participation in such activities ingrains an understanding of energy and water efficiency from an early age. This serves as a long-term investment in their behaviours and future decision-making processes.
Aligning with the 'Year of Community' for 2025, Al Falasi noted that DoE aims to achieve tangible impacts through this initiative. He said it seeks real savings in consumption while fostering an awareness-based influence that resonates within families and communities.
Dr. Bashaer Al Matrooshi, Executive Director of Talent Enablement Sector at ADEK, remarked on the programme's broader impact: "Through Future Pioneers, students are not only learning about energy and water efficiency, they are actively developing the problem-solving and entrepreneurial skills needed to shape a sustainable future."
Milestones Achieved by Future Pioneers
By September 2025, over 6,100 students from 76 schools in Abu Dhabi had participated in the initiative. This milestone highlights increased engagement and awareness among students and educators regarding sustainability and efficient resource use.
The programme organised a student hackathon called "Future Pioneers," involving school teams with more than 100 participants. They showcased innovative projects aimed at enhancing energy and water efficiency within schools and communities.
Strategic Objectives Supporting National Goals
This collaborative effort includes educational programmes focusing on student skills in energy efficiency, sustainability, and community responsibility. Such initiatives support DoE's strategic objectives by promoting efficient natural resource use, positively impacting the national economy while protecting the environment for future generations.
