Abu Dhabi Department Of Energy Highlights Sustainability Policies And Projects At WETEX 2024
The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) is taking part in the 26th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2024). Organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the event will be held from 1st to 3rd October at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The DoE aims to highlight Abu Dhabi's sustainability initiatives to global participants.
Abu Dhabi is committed to building a sustainable future and achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Under-Secretary of DoE, stated, "We are pleased to participate in WETEX 2024, which provides an important opportunity to exchange knowledge and expertise with various local and international entities and to learn about the latest strategies, initiatives, and new technological solutions that contribute to creating a more sustainable and prosperous future."
The DoE's participation underscores its dedication to advancing the energy sector. It supports initiatives aimed at decarbonisation through clean energy sources. Al Rumaithi expressed gratitude towards DEWA for organising this global event that attracts experts in water, energy, and environmental fields.
The DoE will engage in panel discussions and workshops covering topics like artificial intelligence and sustainable water solutions. These sessions aim to foster dialogue on sustainability in education as well. Representatives will present on Abu Dhabi’s Low-Carbon Hydrogen Policy and the Abu Dhabi Energy and Water Efficiency Strategy 2030.
Additionally, they will discuss financing the energy transition in MENA. A forward-looking perspective on ESG (environmental, social, governance) strategies towards a carbon-free economy will also be shared.
Showcasing Strategic Projects
Several strategic projects in Abu Dhabi’s energy sector will be showcased. The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant reduces carbon emissions by 21 million metric tons annually. This is equivalent to removing 3.2 million vehicles from roads. The Al Dhafra Solar PV Power Plant spans approximately 20 square kilometers with a capacity of 1,584 MW.
The Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Plant reduces CO2 emissions by one million tons annually. This is akin to removing 200,000 vehicles from roads. The Taweelah Reverse Osmosis Water Desalination Plant produces 200 million imperial gallons daily.
Highlighting Regulatory Policies
The DoE plans to inform visitors about its latest policies as Abu Dhabi's regulatory authority for energy. Key policies include low-carbon water certificates regulation and district cooling plants' water management policy. Other policies cover demand response, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, waste-to-energy, and consumer protection.
Furthermore, the Clean Energy Certificates Program along with its regulatory policies will be highlighted. The Energy Sector Outlook Report for Abu Dhabi 2050 outlines a comprehensive vision for the emirate's energy sector transformation.
The Al Ajban Solar PV Plant provides a power generation capacity of 1,500 MW. It is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by over 2.4 million metric tons annually in Abu Dhabi. These projects reflect significant strides towards sustainable development goals.
Overall, WETEX 2024 offers a platform for exchanging ideas on sustainability while showcasing Abu Dhabi's leadership in clean energy initiatives globally.
