Abu Dhabi's Community Development Department Launches Innovative Sharek Platform

The Department of Community Development - Abu Dhabi (DCD) has recently underscored its commitment to fostering community engagement and effective decision-making through the introduction of the 'Sharek' platform. This innovative platform is designed to support public benefit associations in Abu Dhabi by enabling them to conduct their general assemblies in various formats: in-person, virtual, or a combination of both. The move aligns with DCD's strategic objectives to enhance participation within the social sector and streamline operational processes.

Mubarak Salem Al Ameri, the Executive Director of the Social Licensing and Control Sector at DCD, has been vocal about the department's support for associations and civil society institutions. By urging these entities to secure the necessary licences, Al Ameri aims to ensure they operate within the legal framework and contribute significantly to societal development. The licensing process is pivotal for these organizations as it empowers them to actively participate in fostering a comprehensive and sustainable development environment.

Al Ameri also took the opportunity to highlight the success stories emerging from the use of the 'Sharek' platform. Notably, he mentioned the first General Assembly of the Union for Human Rights Association conducted earlier this year. This assembly, which brought together 16 specialized fields within human rights, exemplifies how digital platforms can facilitate critical discussions and collaborations aimed at respecting and promoting human rights across different segments of society.

The 'Sharek' platform, which was unveiled at the GITEX technology exhibition, is part of DCD's broader initiative towards digital government transformation. Al Ameri emphasized the importance of leveraging technical services to improve customer experience, simplify procedures, and reduce costs associated with operations. The platform stands as a testament to DCD's dedication to adopting digital solutions that not only enhance efficiency but also promote greater inclusivity and participation in decision-making processes.

In essence, the Department of Community Development - Abu Dhabi is making significant strides in integrating technology into its operations. Through initiatives like the 'Sharek' platform, DCD is setting a precedent for how digital tools can be harnessed to empower civil society institutions and public benefit associations. By facilitating easier access to licensing and enabling flexible assembly options, DCD is actively contributing to a more engaged, participatory, and sustainable social sector in Abu Dhabi.
