Cyber Run And Ride Promotes Health And Digital Security In Abu Dhabi 2026

Abu Dhabi is preparing to host Cyber Run & Ride on 17-18 January 2026, combining running and cycling with digital awareness. The community event promotes active living and highlights cybersecurity issues, reflecting national efforts to support public health, family wellbeing, and safer use of technology across the UAE.

The initiative is organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and sponsored by the UAE Cybersecurity Council. Both bodies link the event to long-term programmes that encourage regular exercise and responsible online behaviour. Plans include activities aimed at residents and visitors, supporting wider government strategies on community engagement, prevention, and digital safety education.

Cyber Run and Ride Boosts Health and Security

The programme will take place in a dedicated event village, designed as a family-friendly hub. Organisers plan community zones and interactive experiences that explain key cybersecurity ideas in accessible ways. Visitors will find sport, learning, and entertainment in the same space, with safe areas created for children, youth, and adults to explore both physical and digital wellbeing themes.

Running events will be staged on 17 January 2026 across several distances to suit different abilities. Participants can register for a half marathon, 10km, 5km, or 2.5km race. Cycling will follow on 18 January 2026 in a non-timed format, focusing on participation and enjoyment rather than competition, so families and new cyclists can join comfortably.

Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, said that Cyber Run & Ride reflects the belief that a well-informed family and physically and mentally healthy individuals form the first line of defence against rapidly evolving digital challenges. Dr. Al Kuwaiti links the event’s sports activities with the wider national cybersecurity awareness agenda.

According to Dr. Al Kuwaiti, criminal networks are using cyberspace and social media platforms in more complex ways to target youth and children. These groups rely on deceptive techniques, which increases the pressure on families and schools. This situation, Dr. Al Kuwaiti noted, makes broad community awareness essential to reduce exposure to cybercrime and harmful online content.

Dr. Al Kuwaiti added that the gathering is more than a sports event, describing it as a message about lifestyle and prevention. The focus on fitness and positive hobbies, Dr. Al Kuwaiti said, helps protect people from cybercrime and online drug trafficking schemes. Regular activity, according to Dr. Al Kuwaiti, supports focus, awareness, and balanced personalities that can recognise risky digital behaviour.

Dr. Al Kuwaiti also highlighted the responsibility of families in guiding children through online spaces. Monitoring usage, encouraging open discussion, and teaching simple cybersecurity rules can build a generation that uses technology safely and responsibly. Dr. Al Kuwaiti said such initiatives show the UAE’s commitment to a healthy, digitally secure society and urged people to attend awareness events and support social responsibility values.

Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said that organising the event aligns with the council’s vision of promoting community sports. "We aim through Cyber Run & Ride to encourage community members to adopt an active lifestyle while delivering an integrated sporting experience that combines entertainment and awareness, ultimately enhancing quality of life in Abu Dhabi," Al Awani said.

Al Awani stated that cooperation with the UAE Cybersecurity Council aligns with the announcement of 2026 as the Year of the Family. The partnership supports national objectives for Emirati family stability and growth. It also aims to strengthen understanding among citizens and residents of the importance of family cohesion as a foundation for strong, resilient communities.

Further information about Cyber Run & Ride will be shared closer to the event dates. Details will include race routes, timings, side activities, and registration procedures. Organisers confirmed that the concept builds on the first Run & Ride, held on 18 February 2024 along the Abu Dhabi Corniche, which drew thousands of participants and reinforced community interest in health, sport, and digital awareness.
