UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Issues Law To Reorganise Abu Dhabi Customs Administration
President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in his role as Ruler of Abu Dhabi, has introduced a new law to reorganise the General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs. This administration operates independently under the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development. It is tasked with proposing policies and strategic plans for customs affairs in the emirate.
The administration is responsible for managing customs offices across the emirate. It implements customs policies and suggests the opening or closing of these offices. Coordination with relevant authorities is crucial to regulate, restrict, or prohibit certain goods' import, export, and transit.

Key responsibilities include inspecting authorised goods, valuing them, and collecting applicable customs duties and taxes. The administration also oversees free zones, free markets, and customs warehouses according to regulations. It ensures compliance with customs laws while supporting trade flow.
Another significant role involves coordinating processes to facilitate goods movement through all customs ports and free zones in the emirate. The administration regulates customs clearance by issuing necessary permits and instructions. Monitoring activities of customs brokers is also part of its duties.
The administration plays a vital role in combating smuggling and related crimes. In collaboration with relevant authorities, it investigates violations and enforces legal measures against offenders. This includes managing conciliation settlements and handling seized or abandoned goods.
Enforcement and Legal Measures
The administration actively works to detect smuggling offences and enforce legal actions against violators. It manages the sale of confiscated goods and implements customs exemptions where applicable. These efforts aim to protect society from unlawful practices.
By reorganising the General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs, the law aims to enhance efficiency in managing customs operations. This reorganisation supports economic development by ensuring smooth trade flow while safeguarding against illegal activities.
