Abu Dhabi Customs Marks UAE Innovation Month With Array Of Events
The General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs recently initiated Innovation Week as part of the UAE Innovation Month, under the theme "Shaping the future of customs work". This event marks a significant step towards fostering innovation within the customs sector, involving a series of events and programmes in collaboration with strategic partners and the private sector. A highlight of this initiative is the Innovation Ideas Hackathon, which will continue until February 29th, aiming to gather innovative solutions for the customs work system.
The hackathon seeks contributions from strategic partners, stakeholders, university students, and all societal segments through the "Ibtikar" platform. The launch event took place at the "Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort" in Abu Dhabi, drawing attendance from executive directors and department heads from Abu Dhabi Customs, alongside representatives from both federal and local government entities and the private sector.

Fahad Ghareeb Al Shamsi, Executive Director of the Support Services Sector at Abu Dhabi Customs, emphasized the role of innovation and artificial intelligence in achieving global leadership for Abu Dhabi Customs. He highlighted the organization's commitment to developing a pioneering customs system that aligns with technological advancements and contributes to the UAE's economic growth.
Al Shamsi also shared achievements from the previous year, noting that Abu Dhabi Customs had established 40 innovation labs and recorded over 2300 ideas and suggestions on the "Ibtikar" platform. These efforts led to several innovative projects that enhanced digital infrastructure and operational efficiency, positioning Abu Dhabi Customs as a model of best global practices.
The Innovation Week also featured an exhibition showcasing innovative projects and initiatives with contributions from various government agencies such as the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, the Department of Municipalities and Transport, the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council. The event celebrated innovators who have contributed to Abu Dhabi Customs' journey towards innovation. Additionally, a creative laboratory was organized with private sector representatives and clients from express shipping companies and clearance firms, among other activities.
This initiative underscores Abu Dhabi Customs' dedication to fostering an environment of creativity and innovation. By engaging a wide range of participants, including strategic partners and the community at large, Abu Dhabi Customs aims to enhance its services and contribute significantly to making the UAE one of the most innovative nations globally.
