Abu Dhabi Classics 2024 Unveils Stellar Lineup Of Global Music Icons

The Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has unveiled an impressive lineup for the upcoming Abu Dhabi Classics 2024. This series, a highlight of the cultural calendar, is set to showcase a diverse range of classical performances across the year. The event, presented by Abu Dhabi Culture, promises to bring together leading international artists in a celebration of classical music.

Among the first announced performances, Dutch violinist and conductor André Rieu stands out. He is scheduled to perform at the Etihad Arena on 9th March, as part of his global tour. This concert, presented by MAC Global and in association with Abu Dhabi Culture, will see Rieu leading his Johann Strauss Orchestra in a performance expected to captivate audiences with classical masterpieces.

Abu Dhabi Classics 2024: Global Music Icons

The series will kick off with family concerts on May 16th and 17th featuring ‘Family concert: DuoCalva’ at Manarat Al Saadiyat. This unique performance aims to make classical music accessible to all ages by combining it with comedy. Following this, Icelandic pianist Vikingur Olafsson will perform a solo piano recital at the Cultural Foundation on 28th May, marking his UAE debut with Bach’s Goldberg Variations.

In September, audiences can look forward to the ‘Lucerne Festival Quintet with Alexander Malofeev’ at Manarat Al Saadiyat. Russian pianist Malofeev will be performing for the first time in the region, alongside members of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. Their repertoire will include Schubert’s trout quintet among other romantic period pieces.

The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Jaap van Zweden and featuring violinist Sarah Chang, will make their Abu Dhabi debut on 7th and 8th November at Emirates Palace. Their performance will include Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony in D Minor and Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D minor.

Abu Dhabi Classics is a testament to DCT Abu Dhabi's commitment to enriching the emirate’s cultural offerings. As a UNESCO-designated ‘City of Music’, Abu Dhabi continues to attract some of the most celebrated artists in classical music.
