International Women's Day In Abu Dhabi Highlights Sheikha Fatima's Legacy

The Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation, in collaboration with Zayed University, recently hosted a captivating panel discussion to celebrate International Women's Day, focusing on the illustrious contributions of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. The session, anchored around Dr. Maitha al Shamsi's book "Fatima bint Mubarak: Illuminations in thought and Work", delved into the transformative role Sheikha Fatima has played in championing women's rights and empowerment in the UAE.

Dr. Maitha al Shamsi, Minister of State, underscored the importance of emulating influential leaders like Sheikha Fatima, who have substantially contributed to the nation's development. She highlighted Sheikha Fatima's instrumental role in fostering generations, advocating for gender equality, and pushing for women's active participation in various facets of life and work.

Founded under Sheikha Fatima's guidance in 1973, the Abu Dhabi Women's Development Association marked the beginning of a significant journey towards women assuming leadership roles within the UAE. Dr. Maitha praised Sheikha Fatima's enduring belief in the capabilities of Emirati women, which has inspired them to excel in numerous fields.

Huda Ibrahim Alkhamis, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation, emphasized the collaborative effort to honor women's societal contributions under the theme 'We Share for Tomorrow.' This initiative aligns with Sheikha Fatima's directives to celebrate women's pioneering roles in society.

Alkhamis lauded Dr. Maitha's intellectual work in documenting the achievements of Emirati women and promoting community values. Dr. Maitha's book provides an inspiring account of Sheikha Fatima's life, reflecting her dedication to global empowerment and humanitarian efforts across various domains.

The panel discussion, moderated by Sameh Kaawach, offered attendees insights into Sheikha Fatima's biography, underscoring her commitment to women's empowerment, childhood care, and the promotion of sports, excellence and creativity. Her Excellency Dr. Maitha bint Salem Al Shamsi emphasised Sheikha Fatima's significant role in humanitarian efforts, including her support for those affected by natural disasters and conflicts, as well as her contributions to developing underserved areas.

Dr. Maitha also highlighted the local, regional, and international recognition of Sheikha Fatima's humanitarian endeavors, underscoring her esteemed status in the realm.
