Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2024 Unveils Arabic ‘Belt And Road Initiative’
In a significant cultural exchange initiative, the 33rd Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF 2024) featured the launch of the Arabic edition of Chinese President Xi Jinping's "The Belt and Road Initiative". This book, first released in September 2013, aims to foster cooperation and innovation across Europe and Asia. The event, orchestrated by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), marks a pivotal moment in Arab-Chinese relations, highlighting the deepening ties between these regions.
The unveiling ceremony saw the presence of notable figures including Zhang Yiming, the Chinese Ambassador to the UAE; Mohamed Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi; Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the ALC; and Du Zhanyuan, President of the China International Communications Group (CICG). Ambassador Zhang lauded the ADIBF for its role in promoting cultural dialogues and was particularly pleased with the introduction of President Xi’s initiative to Arab readers.

The discussions at the event emphasized the critical need for Arab-Chinese collaboration to overcome cultural and linguistic barriers. This cooperation aims at developing economic and political strategies beneficial to both parties, ultimately contributing to a harmonious global community. The initiative is seen as a step towards building a shared future for humanity through mutual understanding and interests.
A keynote session led by Liu Shuangyan, Director of the International Cooperation Department at CICG, delved into the dynamics of Chinese-Emirati and broader Arab relations. It brought together experts from various fields to discuss the impact of initiatives like President Xi’s on international cooperation. The session underscored the importance of such initiatives in enhancing communication and knowledge exchange between nations.
The Arabic edition of "The Belt and Road Initiative" was presented as a token to DCT Abu Dhabi and other dignitaries, symbolizing the strengthening cultural bonds between UAE and China. This gesture also commemorates China’s role as Guest of Honour at the 27th ADIBF in 2017, further solidifying the growing partnership between these cultures.
This event not only celebrates the translation of a significant work but also underscores the ongoing efforts to enhance Arab-Chinese relations. Through such initiatives, both regions are working together to create a future that respects their diverse heritage while embracing shared goals.
