DMT Unveils Comprehensive Beach Guideline To Enhance Abu Dhabi's Coastal Development

The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has introduced the Abu Dhabi Beach Guideline, a key document for future beachfront projects. This guideline sets strict standards to balance ecological preservation with accessibility, aiming to create public spaces that maintain natural features and support sustainable urban growth in the Emirate.

Dr. Saif Sultan Al Nasri, DMT Acting Under-Secretary, highlighted the guideline's importance: "Through the Abu Dhabi Beach Guideline, we are laying the foundation for a complete and impactful transformation of coastlines across the emirate. It is a framework that reflects our dedication to the protection of our sensitive marine habitats. By integrating innovative concepts with rigorous safeguards, we are creating spaces that, in line with the Year of Community, will enrich the lives of residents and visitors for decades to come."

New Beach Guideline Enhances Abu Dhabi's Coastline

The guideline emphasises accessibility for everyone, including children and People of Determination. It includes ramps, adaptive play areas, and fully equipped facilities while preserving ecosystems according to global standards. These measures ensure that all individuals can enjoy beach areas without compromising environmental integrity.

To enhance user experience, the guideline outlines various services like inclusive restrooms, prayer rooms, family picnic zones, sports grounds, and smart parking systems. These facilities are designed to cater to diverse needs while promoting an inclusive environment for all visitors.

Supporting infrastructure is also addressed in the guidelines. Walkways, cycling paths, retail kiosks, lifeguard towers, and mobility aid rentals are included to create inviting spaces that encourage year-round use. These elements aim to make beaches more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Safety and Navigation Enhancements

Safety measures such as traffic calming strategies, targeted lighting, and clear wayfinding are part of the guidelines. These provisions aim to improve safety and navigation on beaches, ensuring visitors can move around easily and securely.

The comprehensive approach outlined in the Abu Dhabi Beach Guideline aims to transform coastlines into vibrant public spaces. By balancing ecological preservation with accessibility and inclusivity, these developments will enrich both residents' and visitors' experiences while supporting sustainable growth in Abu Dhabi.
